My August Pick of the Month gifts are going to be straight from my birthday wishlist, since I am an August baby. If you are searching for birthday gifts for all of those lovely Leos and Virgos, this one is for you!
I’m a simple gal. I wish for the some variation of the same things every year. The list usually involves chocolate, jewelry, flowers, and bubbles, in no particular order. So I will break down my recommendations based on these categories, plus some handbag recommendations, since I have had my eye on some recently. For my favorite bubbles/sparkling wine right now, check out my July pick of the month post here.
Birthday Treats
I love pretty much every dessert you put in front of me, but if you made me choose a favorite it would be the classic chocolate chip cookie, all day long. On my birthday I prefer a killer chocolate chip cookie to birthday cake (although I love birthday cake too, who doesn’t?). I love to bake my own, but if you want to order, I have two favorites, and both are great for dietary restrictions.
Erin McKenna’s Bakery
Everything at Erin McKenna’s is vegan and gluten free, and honestly you can’t tell the difference. My favorite thing in the whole bakery is the chocolate chip cookie. My husband loves them too and he also happens to love gluten and dairy, so there you go. The fun part is that you can buy the cookie mix and make your own with just a few additional ingredients. So I usually go into the Santa Monica location and buy the fresh baked cookies and the mix at the same time, so that I have some ready for me when I have a craving.
Deluscious Cookies & Milk
These are so freakin’ decadent and so much fun. Every flavor is delicious. I love their vegan and gluten free options as well – especially the vegan gluten free chocolate decadence cookie. They make it very easy to ship a gift set, like this one. I like to buy the single serving cookies from Erewhon when I want to treat myself.
Jewelry Ideas
I usually ask for jewelry for my birthday because it is a special treat and not something the average person probably regularly buys for yourself. I like to pick a mix of fine and semi fine, so here are some options at different price points.
This Bagatiba ring
I might have already bought this ring for myself, whoops. I love Bagatiba’s stuff. In addition to being cost effective they are also sustainable!
EF Collection marquise diamond huggies
I’m pretty sure ever set of earrings I have at this point is from EF Collection. I love the huggies, because you barely feel them, so I just keep adding to my collection.
Catbird engraved tomboy ring
I love engraved jewelry because it makes you think of the time, place, person, animal, etc. every time you wear the piece. Lately I have been wanting to get something engraved with my horse Jack’s name.
Sixty Stax layering necklaces
I want the whole set of these, but I love the Villa and the Amari necklaces. You can wear these with anything and they look just as great worn alone as they do together.
Roses
I love flowers and especially roses! They smell so amazing and I wish I had them in every room at all times. My wedding florist Laura (Cody Floral Design) introduced me to the roses from Grace Rose Farm. The quality of the roses they deliver is incredible. I just ordered these miyagi brown roses and I can’t stop staring at them. If you want to make someone feel really special, splurge on these.
If you want to get something that lasts extra long, the rose boxes at Venus Et Fleur will do just that. I like them because you can pick a color that matches the aesthetic of your home and it basically serves as home decor for a year. I recently visited their store in Century City and the whole place smells intensely of roses, which I love. They also have cute little mini roses if you don’t want to indulge on the bigger arrangements.
Handbags
Buying a bag for someone is such a challenge, because you have to really know someone’s personal style in order to be successful (meaning they won’t return it for something else!). That being said, if you focus on neutral colors and classic silhouettes that could go with anything, it could work.
This Demellier bag is on my birthday wishlist. I’ve had my eye on this bag for a while now.
I also love Polene and Cult Gaia. Polene makes bags in neutral shades that you can take anywhere. I also love Cult Gaia if you want to get something on the funkier side.
